Connectivity solutions provider Gefen today announced the release of its HDMI v1.3 over CAT-5 ELR (Extra Long Range) extender. This sender/receiver system sends high definition video with audio, Ethernet and IR back channel up to 330 feet (100m) over just one CAT-5 cable. This is nearly double the distance previous systems could reach using two CAT-5 cables.

“Installers can now turn to Gefen for the most cutting-edge and affordable CAT-5 cable-based extension system for HDTV,” said Hagai Gefen, president and CEO, Gefen Inc. “The HDMI v1.3 CAT-5 ELR cuts cable costs, expands the range of HDTV signal delivery and allows standard network devices to be extended over the same cable.”

The ability to extend Ethernet allows IP-based applications to be easily integrated into the system, and an IR blaster allows the remote source to be controlled by an IR remote pointed at the display.

Hi-def resolutions up to 1080p/60 full HD supporting deep color, lip sync and 8.1 digital audio with Dolby TrueHD and DTS Master Audio are delivered instantly from the local source to the extended display.

The system’s sender unit connects to the source; the receiver unit connects to the display. One CAT-5 cable connects the sender to the receiver, and may be placed in conduit or run along the floor.

A true plug and play installation, ease of use and a reliable, steadfast performance make the HDMI v1.3 CAT-5 ELR a valuable product for anyone installing hi-def audio/video systems today.

The HDMI v1.3 CAT-5 ELR will begin shipping in December 2009. Orders may be placed with one of Gefen’s international resellers, US-based distributors or online at Gefen.com.

Extron Electronics  announced the immediate availability of the MTP 1500RL 15HD RS and MTP 1500RL 15HD RS SEQ Extended Distance Twisted Pair Receivers for VGA and RS-232. These receivers work with MTP Series transmitters to send high resolution video 1,500 feet (450 meters) or more and RS-232 signals up to 1,000 feet (300 meters) over a single CAT 5-type cable. The extended distance receivers are compatible with resolutions up to 1920×1200 WUXGA, and feature separate continuously variable level and peaking adjustments that precisely optimize image quality for various cable lengths. Each receiver also offers an additional female MTP buffered output, enabling up to eight receivers to be connected in series, reducing the number of parallel cable runs required. The SEQ model adds independent skew compensation adjustments for each color.

“The MTP 1500RL 15HD RS receivers join our line of MTP twisted pair products that enable long distance transmission of high resolution video signals in stadiums, airport terminals and other large building applications,” says Casey Hall, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Extron Electronics. “Our new high performance receivers enable integrators to leverage the benefits of twisted pair on longer cable runs without sacrificing signal quality and integrity.”

The extended distance receivers are housed in low profile, rack-mountable metal enclosures that can be discreetly mounted in racks or behind wall-mounted displays. They are compatible with the MTP Series of transmitters, switchers, distribution amplifiers, and matrix switchers.

Hall Research releases the URA-SKU, an ultra-compact PC video and audio on twisted-pair (UTP) receiver that features built-in RGB skew correction. The device uses 5-stage active equalization and 62 nanoseconds of skew adjustment for any UTP cable. It can reproduce the original audio and video in real time and with perfect clarity at a distance of up to 1,000 feet (300m). The URA-SKU supports video resolutions to 1920×1200 at any refresh rate. Digitally controlled adjustments eliminate the need to tweak pots or set dip-switches.

Hall Research announces the release of the Model URA-SKU Video-on-UTP receiver with skew correction. The URA-SKU is the most technically advanced and physically compact addition to Hall Research’s PC and HD audio & video extension systems that utilize twisted-pair cabling. The device allows for the reception of HD video and audio signals over a single CATx cable. The receiver incorporates 5-stage active equalization followed by precision RGB skew correction in order to accommodate any UTP or STP cable to 1,000 feet (300m).

The URA-SKU provides digitally controlled adjustments so the need for tweaking pots or setting dip-switches is eliminated.

“The URA-SKU receiver is the latest progression in our successful and mature video-over-UTP extension product line,” said Ali Haghjoo, Chief Executive Officer for Hall Research. “This rugged and compact receiver includes mounting brackets which makes it ideal to be located behind any large LCD or video projector,” Mr. Haghjoo concluded.

The URA-SKU has a retail price of $299 and is available now through Hall Research’s authorized dealers or by contacting Hall Research at (714) 641-6607.

Gefen Extender for HDMI v1.3 Over One CAT-6a Cable Makes Extending HDTVs and Projectors at 1080p/60 Easy and Economical

5 09 2009

Connectivity solutions provider Gefen today announced the availability of its improved version of the Extender for HDMI v1.3 over One CAT-6a cable.

This sender/receiver system delivers high definition video at 1080p full HD with up to 12 bit deep color support up to 175 feet (53m) in length using just one shielded CAT-6a cable. Resolutions at 1080i/60 can be extended even further up to 250 feet (76m). All HDMI v1.3 features are supported including lip sync audio, Dolby TrueHD and DTS Master Audio.

With this extender, installers can cut cable costs by half as previous solutions required the use of two CAT-5 cables to reach the same distance. WDisplays mounted on walls or projectors installed on the ceiling can receive their HDMI signal from a source located in a rack mounted area or closet. At the 175 foot extension length, the system can accommodate most large conference rooms, retail or entertainment spaces.

“This extender was designed to offer professionals a reliable alternative to the use of two CAT-5 cables,” said Hagai Gefen, president and CEO, Gefen Inc. “If a building is already wired with one CAT-5 cable, installers can tap into the existing infrastructure at a shorter distance and avoid new cable runs. But with one CAT-6 cable, this system will streamline the installation even further and extend the range of extension.”

The Gefen Extender for HDMI v1.3 over One CAT-6 works with all high definition devices available today, including set-top boxes and gaming systems, as well as flat panel displays and projectors using the HDMI format. Support for HDCP compliance ensures it will work with protected content on Blu-rays and other DVD devices.

Its small form factor (each box measures just one-inch high by three-inches wide) further improves the installation process by eliminating bulky equipment in the viewing area. It comes with two external power supplies and a set of wall mounting brackets.
